I began training when I was 16, just after finishing freshman year in High School. At the time my grades were C’s and D’s and I had no motivation, no passion for anything. I always wanted to take martial arts, but I had no clue that it would make my life better than I could have ever hoped! I was nervous on my first day, but the instructors were very kind and helped me understand the moves – I felt comfortable and found that as I improved, they bumped up the intensity perfectly to fit my needs. To my surprise, my grades began to improve. I began to work harder at the important things in life and to have a better connection with my family who also started to train with me. One year later, I was getting all A’s and B’s and was happier than I had ever been! I continued train and as I climbed the ranks toward black belt, I started to take on more in life – I could do anything I set my mind to! I paid my way through college at San Jose State University and graduated with a 3.7 GPA! And I it all started with this Academy, and the values and lessons I learned while training. I now co-own LightSpeed Martial Arts Academy with my husband, Master Salisbury, and life could not be better!
